reasons for doing this, both personal and biblical

1. to grow closer to God and more open to what He's communicating

2. to purify my mind, heart, body and soul

3. to obey a Biblical recommendation

4. to break some bad habits and some dependencies I am realizing I have

5. to allow God to use me

6. to pray
a) for my family
b) for the church I used to go to, as well as the church I attend now
c) for direction in my finances and my studies
d) to discern whether I should keep my current job
e) to find out who I really am, and calm some of the cognitive dissonance inside of me

7. to enhance my understanding of spiritual truths

8. to allow the fruits of the Spirit to grow

9. to pray for a spiritual gift, or to be able to identify one

10. to break my spirit and humble myself so God can lift me up

11. for healing, in all senses of the word


17 BIBLICAL REASONS TO FAST

1. To worship, love and glorify God (Luke 2:37; Zechariah 7:5; Isaiah 58:2)

2. To intensify the effectiveness of our prayer (Ezra 8:23; Isaiah 58:9 Judges 20)
